5-19-14 through May 24- Articles of Confederation
5-12-14 Today we discussed the major battles of the American Revolution, Bunker Hill, Saratoga and Yorktown are the 3 I would like students to remember.
Battle of Bunker Hill: This battle was one of the deadliest of the war. It occurred even before the Declaration of Independence had been signed. The colonists held back the British for a long time until they ran out of ammunition. Even though they lost it gave them confidence that perhaps they could win the war.
Battle of Saratoga- This battle was the turning point in the war. When we won this large battle, France decided we might be able to win the Revolution and became our ally- sending supplies, money and people to help.
Battle of Yorktown- This was the last major battle of the war. France blockaded the harbor so the British could not receive any supplies. Eventually the British surrendered.

We viewed different artistic interpretations of the same event and discussed how history can be seen from different perspectives. We also made inferences from illustrations and read about Roger Williams and Anne Hutchinson and how they were asked to leave their settlements. Students thought it was interesting that the Puritans came to America for religious freedom, yet they did not allow others religious freedom.
